Description

This brooch, or slangesølje, was made by Nilius Marinius Thune, who was one of Oslo's oldest goldsmiths. It has six circular filligree rosettes that hang from intersections of arcs. Each rosette has two gold-plated dangles, or spoons, that flank a narrow pointed silver dangle. The surface of the pin is decorated with coils, balls, and braided trim. The fastener is a hinged straight pin secured by a wire loop. The center prong is decorative and not functional.

Marks: THUNE 13 1/2 1879
