Born 1 May 1843 at Haukedalen, Hadeland, Norway, eldest son of Jens Ericksen Ness and Ingeborg Hansdatter Kapelsrud. Immigrated to Decorah, Winneshiek County Iowa, in 1854. Civil War: Age 21. Blue eyes, light brown hair, light complexion, 5’6”. Enrolled 20 Oct 1864 and mustered the same day. Private. Mustered out 21 Jul 1865, Louisville, Kentucky. Discharged 20 Aug 1865. Post war: Operated a farm in Canoe Township, Winneshiek County. Married to Ingeborg/Emily Tobiason on 29 Mar 1869 at Luther College, Decorah, by Rev. Nils Brandt. Lived at Osage, Iowa. Eleven children. In 1885, Edward Erickson was living in Springwater, Canoe Township. Died 26 Aug 1926 in Winneshiek County at age 83. Buried at Big Canoe Lutheran Cemetery, near Decorah.
