Born “Syvert Knudsen Meltvedt” on 19 Jun 1825 at Strands Sogn, Rogaland, Norway, son of Knud Haaversen Meltvedt and Martha Sjursdattrer Lerang. He and his parents were Quakers in Norway. They came to America on “Ebenezer”, which sailed from Stavanger, Rogaland in late April 1849 and arrived in New York in mid-June of that year. Civil War: Private. Wounded.
