WI 15th Inf Co I. Residence: La Crosse, La Crosse County, Wisconsin. Born 1840 in Ovre Vraadahl, Hvideseid, Telemark, Norway, in 1840. Came to America in 1861 (1841?). Civil War: Age 20. Unmarried. Clerk. Blue eyes, light hair, fair complexion, 5’5”. Enlisted for three years on 25 Dec 1861 at La Crosse and mustered at Madison, Wisconsin, 18 Jan 1862. Private. Discharged from the service for heart disease at Mississippi River Island No. 10 on 15 Feb 1863. Later, he re-enlisted for one year on 31 Mar 1865 in Captain Henry Seigel’s Independent company, which became Company K Consolidated of the 23rd Illinois Infantry Regiment. He was mustered the same day. Bounty $100. Private. Mustered out as a Sergeant in Richmond, Virginia, on 24 July 1865. Post war: Moved to Montana in 1867. Jackson was in 1893 a businessman in Butte, Montana.
