IL 53rd Inf Co C. Born 23 Nov 1836 in Haugesson, Norway. Civil War: Age 25. Enlisted 25 Nov 1861. Private. Sustained a bullet wound to his head in the battle of Matamoras on 5 Oct 1862. Discharged 9 Apr 1863 at Boliva, Tennessee. Post war: He was living at Newburg, Fillmore County, Minnesota, in 1890. Later he lived at Mt. Vernon, South Dakota. Married to Cordelia. Died of asthma and infirmities at age 77 in Mt. Vernon. Buried there in the Victor Cemetery, lot 14, grave 10.
