WI 23rd Inf Co D. Residence: Pleasant Springs, Dane County, Wisconsin. Born “Torjus Johmsen Homme” on 23 Aug 1841 at Kviteseid, Norway, son of John Torjussen Homme and Birgit Knudsdatter Brekke. He came to America with his parents and three siblings on “Lorena”, which sailed from Havre, France, and arrived in New York on 17 Jul 1843. They came to Muskego, Racine County, Wisconsin, and moved about 1846 to Pleasant Springs. Civil War: Unmarried. Age 21. Enlisted 11 Aug 1862 at Madison, Wisconsin. Mustered 30 Aug 1862. Private. Mustered out 4 Jul 1865. Post war: He was married in October 1866 to Anna Hendrickson (c1849-c1924). Ten children. In 1868, they moved to Chippewa Falls Township, Pope County, Minnesota. In March 1881 a man named Torgus Johnson, then of Glenwood, Pope County, was granted a pension of $10 a month because of chronic diarrhea, disease of his lungs, chronic rheumatism and debility of his eyes.
