Married Anne Olsdatter, who had been born in Land in 1815. Six children: Ole born 1832, Marit 1835, Johannes 1838, Peder 1840, Elisa 1842 and Johan 1845. The family came to America in 1847 and settled in Coon Valley, Hamburg Township, Vernon County. Civil War: Enlisted along with his sons, John and Peter, and a son-in-law, Peter Johannesen Skonhovd. Enlisted for three years on 26 Nov 1861 at La Crosse, Wisconsin. Enlistment credited to LaCrosse. Mustered 10 Dec 1861 at Madison, Wisconsin. Private. Sick at Nashville, Tennessee 26 Dec 62. Sent to Convalescent Camp in Stevenson, Alabama, 28 Aug 1863. Transferred to Invalid Corps (Veterans Reserve Corps) on 1 Sep 1863. Post war: Moved to South Dakota. Died at Jamesville Township, South Dakota, at age 69 on 14 Sep 1882 of tuberculosis. Buried in Bethlehem Norwegian Lutheran Cemetery in Jamesville, block alley, grave K.
