WI 15th Inf Co D. Residence: Oconomowoc, Waukesha County, Wisconsin. Born “Johannes B. Hovland” at Faaberg, Norway, about 1832. Civil War: Farmer. Age 19. Unmarried. Blue eyes, light hair, light complexion, 5’10½”. Enlisted for three years on 11 Nov 1861 at Oconomowoc, and mustered at Madison, Wisconsin, on 8 Dec 1861. Appointed Corporal 1 Jan 1862. Died of disease in hospital number 7 in St. Louis, Missouri, on 17 Mar 1862. Buried first in Wesleyan Cemetery, and his body was then moved to Jefferson Barracks National Cemetery, St Louis; section 37, grave 81.
