Bentwood box (tine) decorated with acanthus carving on sides and cover. Sides glued to base which also forms bottom. Handled cover clamps in end pieces which have been carved separately and attached.
Carved by Ole Simengaard (1889-1957) of Hillsboro, North Dakota. He was born in Gudbrandsdalen, Norway, studied woodcarving in Hamar from 1908-09, and immigrated to the U.S. in 1911. Worked as a farmer, laborer, and house builder in the Hillsboro area.
