Thorn Norheim was born in Eidsvoll/Eidsvold, Norway in 1908 but spent his childhood in Hvaler, Østfold, Norway. In 1925, Norheim emigrated to the U.S. where he studied painting in Chicago at the Campana School of Art and in New York at the Phoenix Art Institute and Federal School of Commerical Art and Design. Then, in 1936, he began a long career as a teacher. He spent most of his life teaching methods of painting and setting up schools for amateur and beginning artists. Norheim died in Missouri in 1989.
