Lloyd Scarseth was born in Gale, Wisconsin in 1906. He started drawing when he was a young child, drawing animals and nature scenes at seven or eight years old. He used crayons first, then at age ten he started using watercolors, and in the 8th grade he began experimenting with oils. He continued exploring various media, developing artistic talents in copper embossing, carving, leatherwork, oil and acrylic painting. In addition to being an artist and creating drawings for calendars, he was a farmer and licensed taxidermist. Scarseth died near Coon Valley, Wisconsin in 1984.

Note from artist: “I always loved to see the cotton tails in the winter snow scenes. Any snow scene of cotton tails and a few small pine trees mixed in, was always a fit scene for a calendar. Any brushy ravine with a few wood-chuck holes, and some brush piles, made a heaven for cotton tails.”
