Peer Gulbrandsen was born in 1907 in Elverum, Norway. In 1929, he emigrated to Chicago and one of his first jobs was at the Norwegian-American Hospital. One of the doctors saw a sketch he made and arranged for him to meet and have lessons with Percy Sloan of Park Front Studio. He attended painting classes there but was primarily a self-taught artist. Gulbrandsen painted Norwegian scenes, but also produced American landscapes and still lifes. He died in 1995.
