Bentwood box with pegged base. Cover held by decoratively carved wood extensions. The rosemaling on this bentwood box was done by Nikuls Buine (1789-1852), of Fyresdal, Telemark, Norway. Buine is a key figure in Telemark rosemaling history. He emigrated from Norway with his family in 1852 and died the day after he arrived in Racine, WI.
