The Luren Singing Society of Decorah, Iowa, was founded in 1868 and represents the choral groups and singing societies that Norwegians and their descendants formed and sustained here in the United States. This quartet was comprised of Luren Singing Society members Oscar Holm, Carl Larsen, Ole G. Huff, and E.M. Sunnes. The band’s name plays with two meanings: Skurre means “grating to one’s senses,” perhaps a humorous reference to what these fellows sounded like. Skure means “to scour, to wash,” which would refer to their soap box
