IN 42nd Inf Co D. Residence: Canelton, Perry County, Indiana. Born 6 Jan 1843 in Switzerland. His family moved to Norway and lived there for seven years. In 1853, they came to America, landing at Quebec. Settled in Woonsocket, Rhode Island. In 1858, this family moved to Canelton. Civil War: Enlisted 5 Oct 1861. Private. Wounded in the Battle of Perryville. Transferred to the Mississippi River Brigade. Discharged from the service. In January 1868, he enlisted for three years in IN 4th Artillery Battery G.
