MN 8th Inf Co D. Residence: Arendahl, Fillmore County, Minnesota. Born “Christian Trulsen Mael”, one of five sons of Truls Hermundsson Mael to fight in the Civil war. Civil War: Age 19. Enrolled 20 Aug 1862. Mustered 17 Nov 1862. Private. Served in Indian and Civil wars. Sent to fight in the Indian Wars under General Sully. Fought in the battle of Killdeer Mountain, Dakota Territory, 28 Jul 1864. His unit later fought at Murfreesboro, Tennessee. The Minnesota 8th Infantry fought, along with the Ohio 174th and the Ohio 178th, as part of the 3rd Brigade, 1st Division, 23rd Army Corps. Wounded. Discharged from the service with his regiment, 11 Jul 1865. Did not marry. He carried a bullet in his body the rest of his life. Died at age 55.
