RISUM, Otto Axel

WI 15th Inf Co G. Residence: Spring Valley, Rock County, Wisconsin. Born in Christiania, Norway, 23 Feb 1835, son of a printer. In 1845, his family moved to Risör. Otto became a seaman. In 1856, he came to Chicago. Civil War: Age 27. Unmarried. Farmer. Blue eyes, brown hair, light complexion, 5’9”. Enlisted for three years on 16 Oct 1861 at Beloit and mustered 12 Dec 1861 at Madison. Designated Sergeant. After battle of Chickamauga, Georgia, he was transferred to the Regimental Staff and promoted to Sergeant Major, on 1 Mar 1864. Re-enlisted for three years on 1 Jan 1864 at Strawberry Plains, Tennessee. Bounty $402. Re-mustered on 25 Apr 1864 at McDonald’s Station, Tennessee. Commissioned First Lieutenant and assigned as Regimental Adjutant on 15 Oct 1864 with rank from 24 Sep 1864. Mustered out in Chattanooga, Tennessee, 19 Feb 1865. Post war: From 1873 to 1877, he was postmaster in Pulsifer, Wisconsin. By 1916, he was living in Los Angeles, California.
