Mustered 16 Jul 1861 at Madison, Wisconsin. Private. Took part in the battles of Gainesville, Virginia, 28-29 Aug 1862; Second Bull Run, Virginia, 30 Aug 1862 and South Mountain, Maryland, 14 Sep 1862. Wounded in action at South Mountain. Returned to duty on 30 Oct 1862. Took part in the battles of Fredericksburg, Virginia, 11-15 Dec 1862; Fitzhugh’s Crossing, Virginia, 29 Apr 1863; Chancellorsville, Virginia, 1-3 May 1863 and Gettysburg, Pennsylvania, 1-3 Jul 1863.
