WI 23rd Inf Co D. Residence: Blue Mounds, Dane County, Wisconsin. Born “Ole Olsen Svennes” on 20 Dec 1840, in Nord-Aurdal, Oppland, Norway, son of Ole Olsen Svennes and Ingeborg Olsdatter Rullang. He and his parents came to America on “Statsraad Vogt”, which sailed from Bergen and reached New York 3 Jul 1848. They came to Blue Mounds Township, Dane County. Civil War: Unmarried. Age 21. Enlisted for three years on 14 Aug 1862 at Blue Mounds. Mustered 30 Aug 1862 at Madison, Wisconsin. Private. Left in hospital at Memphis, Tennessee, 21 Dec 1862. Mustered out 4 Jul 1865. Post war: Married on 30 Aug 1863 to Mary Ann Tvedten (1842-1879). Five children. Lived in Primrose, Wisconsin. Became a school teacher and a town official. He was married on 29 Apr 1880 to Ingeborg Okland (1858-1918). Eight children. In 1909, he moved to Taylor County, Wisconsin. He died there on 26 Mar 1921. Buried in East Blue Mounds Lutheran Cemetery, Mt. Horeb, Wisconsin; stone reads “1840 – 1921”.
