IA 12th Inf Co G. Residence: Frankville Township near Decorah, Winneshiek County, Iowa. Born in Norway. Civil War: Age 23. Enlisted for three years on 10 Oct 1861 at Decorah, Iowa. Mustered 5 Nov 1861 as a Corporal. Missing in action 5 Apr 1862, Shiloh, Tennessee. Wounded 4 Oct 1862, Corinth, Mississippi. Treated for scurvy and heart disease at Annapolis, Maryland, and at St. Louis, Missouri. Said he took part in battles at Fort Henry, Fort Donelson, Shiloh, Jackson, Vicksburg, Tupelo, Nashville and Spanish Fort. Was prisoner of war for six months at Macon, Georgia, and Catawba, Alabama, and Libby. Said he was taken prisoner at Shiloh on 6 Apr 1862. Exchanged about 3 Nov 1862.
