Born “Anders Andersen Sværen” on 11 Apr 1839 at Balestrand, Sogn og Fjordane, Norway, son of Anders Andersen Sværen and Mari Olsdatter Distad. He came to America with his parents and three sisters on “Dorothea”, which sailed from Bergen and reached New York 5 Jul 1848. They came to Vienna Township, Dane County, Wisconsin. Civil War: Farmer. Age 24. Blue eyes, light hair, fair complexion, 5’8”. Enlisted for three years on 19 Nov 1863 at Burke, Wisconsin. Mustered 11 Dec 1863 at Milwaukee, Wisconsin. Bounty $292. Private. Recruit. Mustered out 9 May 1865 at St. Louis General Hospital, New Orleans, Louisiana. Post war: Married 28 Nov 1870 to Kristi Larsdatter Hæreid (1845-1929). Twelve children. He died 7 Mar 1913.
