Enlisted for three years as a substitute for J. H. Johnson on 16 Jan 1864 at Madison, Wisconsin, and mustered there on 17 Feb 1864. Private. Joined G Company at Strawberry Plains, Virginia. 31 Mar 1864. Wounded in his hand at New Hope Church, Georgia, 27 May 1864. Transferred to Company H at Whiteside, Tennessee. Temporarily assigned to the 24th Infantry on 13 Feb 1865. Transferred to Company I of the 13th on 10 Jun 1865.
