He came to America with his parents and two older brothers on “Johanna”, which sailed from Drammen and arrived in New York on 22 Jul 1843. They came to Newark Township, Rock County, Wisconsin. Civil War: Mason. Age 18. Unmarried. Enlisted for three years on 4 Oct 1861 at Janesville. Mustered the same day in Madison, Wisconsin. Private. Took part in actions at Fredericktown, Missouri, 12 Oct 1861. Listed as sick at Ironton in November 1861 and at Sulphur Springs, Missouri, in January 1862. Discharged from the service for disability on 4 Mar 1862 at Sulphur Springs. Believed to have re-enlisted in MN 6th Inf Co K.
