WI 13th Inf Co G. Residence: Clayton, Dane County, Wisconsin. Born “Johannes Pedersen Stuvøen” on 14 Apr 1831 in Hjartdal, Telemark, Norway, son of Peder Bentsen Stuvøen and Anne Johnsdatter Dybedahl. He came to America with his parents and two siblings on “Lolland”, which sailed from Larvik and reached New York on 14 Aug 1848. They came to Racine County, Wisconsin, and by 1850 had moved to Winnebago County. Civil War: Age 30. Farmer. Unmarried. Blue eyes, black hair, dark complexion, 5’4”. Enlisted for three years on 9 Sep 1861 at Clayton. Mustered 17 Oct 1861 at Janesville, Wisconsin. Private. Discharged from the service on a surgeon’s certificate of disability on 9 May 1863 at Fort Donelson, Tennessee. Post war: Buried at Winchester, Wisconsin; stone reads “14 Apr 1831-4 Feb 1901”.
