Born “Hans Jørgensen Ulvestad” on 4 Oct 1821 at Lærdalsfjøren, Balestrand, Sogn og Fjordane, Norway, son of Jørgen Jørgensen Ulvestad and Ingeborg Aslaksdatter. Married on 3 Apr 1848 to Synneve Olsdatter Dræge. Came to America with his wife and baby son Sjur on “Dorothea”, which sailed from Bergen and reached New York on 5 Jul 1848. They came to Spring Valley Township, Rock County, Wisconsin, and moved about 1858 to Medelia Township, Brown County, Minnesota. Indian War: Private. Post war: Moved by 1880 to Long Lake Township, Watonwan County, Minnesota. Died 13 Jul 1906 in Odin, Watonwan County, and buried in Kansas Lake Cemetery. Son was in the Civil War.
