WI 17th Inf Co B. Born 1836 in Hedalen, Valders, Norway. Civil War: Laborer. Age 27. Blue eyes, red hair, fair complexion, 5’6½”. Enrolled for one year on 5 Nov 1864 at Fond du Lac, Wisconsin, as a substitute for William Marsh of Lyman, Dodge County, Wisconsin. Was said to have also been in the WI 15th Inf, but nothing official found. Private. Became ill and was sent to a hospital in Madison, Wisconsin, where he died of disease on 11 May 1865. Buried at Black Earth, Vermont Township, Wisconsin. Stone reads “29 Dec 1839 – 11 May 1865”.
