WI 15th Inf Co B. Residence: Norway Township, Racine County, Wisconsin. Born 1835 in Norway, son of Halvor and Anne Marie Britton. Civil War: Age 24. Unmarried. Enlisted for three years on 11 Nov 1861 at Waterford, Wisconsin, and mustered at Madison, Wisconsin, on 2 Dec 1861. Corporal. Assigned to Company C, but promoted to First Sergeant and reassigned to Company B on 1 Jan 1863. Taken prisoner in the battle of Picket’s Mill, Georgia, in 1864. Died in Andersonville Prison of Scurvy on 10 Oct 1864. Buried in Andersonville Cemetery, grave 10,686. There is a memorial to him at North Cape Cemetery, Wisconsin.
