BROWN, Alexander L.

TX 20th Cav Co C. CSA. Residence: Henderson Couinty, Texas. Born “Alexander Brun Abrahamsen” on 12 Mar 1839 in Flekkefjord, Vest Agder, Norway, son of Abraham Ommundsen Brun and Maria Kjeldsdatter Lostrup. He came to America with his parents and seven siblings on “Favoriten”, which sailed from Stavanger, Rogaland, on 16 May 1849 and arrived in New York on 28 Jun 1849, but was held in quarantine until 4 July. They came to Illinois, stopping briefly, and then went to Lee County, Iowa. By 1851, they had moved to Texas, and by 1854, were in Henderson County. Civil War: Farmer. Blue eyes, light hair, light complexion, 5’10”. Enlisted for one year at Prairieville, Kaufman County on 10 Mar 1862. Private. Discharged at Camp McCulloch on 22 Jun 1862 by reason of physical “inability to perform the duties of a soldier”. Post war: Married in Henderson County on 13 Sep 1868 to Sarah Jane Panther (1845-1916). Nine children. Died 1910, and is buried in Ash Cemetery, Henderson County.
