WI 43rd Inf Co D. Residence: Rock County, Wisconsin. Born 7 Jul 1847 in Hallingdal, Norway, a son of Helge Burtness and Loeva Maiermon. Came to America about 1860. Civil War: Enlisted 1864. Post war: He moved to Houston County, Minnesota. Married in 1870 to Barbara Solem in Rock County, Wisconsin. In 1871 they moved to Grant County, Minnesota, and homesteaded in Elbow Lake township.
