Son of Torger Steinsen KJølvik (1785-1875) and Kristi (Kisti) Ellingsdotter Mehusbygdå (1780-1875). Ove married Johanna Margreta Johannesdotter Nåddland from Ombo (neighbor island) in 1853, and they emigrated in 1854. He remarried in 1881 to Marthes Erickson (d. 1900), who had recently arrived from Norway. The family first lived in La Salle County, Illinois, but then moved to Norse in Bosque County, Texas, where Cleng Peerson gave Ove land in exchange for a home. Civil War: Farmer. Age: 38. Blue eyes, sandy hair, fair complexion, 6’. Enlisted 6 Aug 1863 at Camp McCullough. Private. Post war: Died at Norse, Bosque County, Texas, 1895. Also “Ove Kjolvig”.
