WI 4th Lt Arty. Residence: St. Ansgar Township, Mitchell County, Iowa. Born “Anders Davidsen Nyre” on 2 Aug 1828 in Voss, Hordaland, Norway, to David Andersen Nyre and Sigrid Isaksdatter Nyre. Came to America at age 15 traveling with his parents and four siblings on the “Kong Sverre” out of Bergen to New York arriving 30 Jun 1845. They came to Boone County, Illinois; then to Mitchell County, Iowa. Civil War: Blacksmith and farmer. Enlisted 22 Sep 1861. Assigned as an Artificer. Mustered out 8 Oct 1864, his term having expired. Post war: Married 18 Jun 1869 to Marit Olson. Six children. Moved to Worth County, Iowa, in 1878. Died 2 Jul 1917 at Silver Lake, Worth County. Buried at Silver Lake Cemetery.
