Enlisted for three years on 6 Dec 1861 at Decorah, Winneshiek County, Iowa, and mustered 13 Feb 1862 at Madison, Wisconsin. Private. Was with the provision transport from Stevenson, Alabama, in October 1863. Re-enlisted for three years on 1 Jan 1864 at Strawberry Plains, East Tennessee. Re-mustered on 25 Apr 1864 at McDonald’s Station, Tennessee. To be given a 30-day furlough sometime before the end of his original enlistment term. Promoted to Corporal. Temporarily assigned to the Wisconsin 24th Infantry. Transferred on 10 Jun 1865 to Company I of the Wisconsin 13th. Discharged from the service 30 Jun 1865 at New Orleans, Louisiana, “by reason of being supernumerary N.C.O.”. Post war: In 1886, he was living in Decorah, Winneshiek County, Iowa.
