MN 1st Battalion Infantry, Co H. Residence: Highlandville, Winneshiek County, Iowa. Born about 1846 in Foss, Aal, Hallingdal, Norway, a son of Elling Aslesen. Came to America to Wisconsin at age five. In 1856, the family moved to Canoe Creek, Winneshiek County. Civil War: Age 19. Enrolled 3 Apr 1865. Mustered the same day. Private. Discharged from the service with his company on 14 Jul 1865. Post war: Was honored at a family reunion in Decorah in 1937.
