Blue eyes, light brown hair, light complexion, 6’¼”. Enlisted 17 May 1861 at Janesville, Wisconsin. Enlistment credited to Avon, Rock County, Wisconsin. Mustered 11 Jun 1861. Private. Wounded at Gettysburg. Re-enlisted as a veteran for three years on 18 Dec 1863 at Culpepper, Virginia. Re-mustered there on 1 Jan 1864. Re-enlistment bounty $400. Transferred to WI Independent Battalion Co A on 10 Jun 1864. Transferred to WI 6th Inf Co G on 30 Nov 1864. Transferred to the Veterans Reserve Corps, 2 Feb 1865. Ulvestad states that this soldier was one of the first to enlist, that he came from the Rock River Settlement in Wisconsin, and that he took part in battles fought by the Army of the Potomac.
