WI 15th Inf Co B. Residence: Buffalo City, Buffalo County, Wisconsin. Born in Hafslo, Hardalen, Norway. Came to Viroqua, Wisconsin, in 1862. Civil War: Age 18; family stories say he was 16 and lied about his age. Farmer. Blue eyes, light hair, light complexion, 5’8”. Enlisted for three years on 17 Feb 1864 at La Crosse, Wisconsin. Enlistment credited to La Crosse. Mustered there the same day. Private. Entered as a substitute for a man from Buffalo City. Joined B Company in Knoxville, Tennessee. Sick 13 Jul 1864. Assigned temporarily to Company H on 1 Dec 1864. Assigned temporarily to the Wisconsin 24th Infantry. Transferred on 10 Jun 1865 to Company K, Wisconsin 13th Infantry. Mustered out 24 Nov 1865 at San Antonio, Texas. Post war: Married Johanna Larson; settled on a farm in Modena, Buffalo County. Twelve children. Died at his daughter’s home in Modena on 11 Oct 1928.
