MN Sharp Shooters, 2nd Company. This was called Captain Russell’s Company, Minnesota Sharpshooters, and was attached to Berdan’s U. S. Sharpshooters. Residence: Holden Township, Goodhue County, Minnesota. From Aurland, Sogn, Norway. Came to America in 1858. Civil War: Farmer. Age 22. Blue eyes, brown hair, fair complexion, 5’11”. Mustered 22 Jan 1862. Private. On 1 Jun 1862, this company joined the MN 1st Inf at Fair Oaks and was called Company L. It was with the MN 1st through the battles of Antietam and Gettysburg. Promoted to Corporal 3 Jun 1863. Re-enlisted for three years on 31 Mar 1864 at Stevensburg, Virginia. Given 30 day leave. Promoted to Sergeant 9 Dec 1864. Captured by the enemy. Exchanged at Camp Parole, Annapolis, Maryland. Mustered out 19 May 1865 at Alexandria, Virginia. Post war: Served two terms in the Minnesota Legislature, 1873 and 1881.
