WI 6th Inf. Residence: Lower Coon Valley, Wisconsin. Born “Mathias Olsen Galtestad” in 1831 at Biri, Norway. He was a son of Ole Nilsen Ovre Galtestad and Gulbjor Andersdatter. Came to America with his sister Nicoline Galtestad in 1849. He married Christiana Sveum in 1857. They had nine children. Civil War: Private. Wounded and discharged from the service in 1865. Post war: He died in 1903 near Coon Valley, Wisconsin; his widow died in 1928.
