WI 15th Inf Co A. Residence: Capron, Boone County, Illinois. Born 1844 in Capron, the son of Jorgen Jorgenson Sande and Maren Olsdatter Kaasa, who had come from Seljord, Telemark, Norway, reaching the U. S. on 17 Jul 1843. Civil War: Age 17. Unmarried. Enlisted for three years on 16 Oct 1861 at Boone County. Mustered 15 Nov 1861 at Madison, Wisconsin. Corporal. Detached from his regiment to guard commissary stores at Camp Ethridge since 23 Jun 1862. Sent to guard a supply train from Stevenson, Alabama, on 13 Oct 1863. Promoted to Sergeant. Dispatched with an ambulance train on 5 May 1864. Sent to a hospital in Chattanooga, Tennessee, 22 Aug 1864, and died there of chronic diarrhea on 5 Oct 1864. (One muster roll lists his death as 22 Sep 1864.) Buried in National Cemetery, Chattanooga; section F, grave 698. Entered on Roll of Honor 14 Feb 1865.
