GROGARD, Nicholas C.

TX 3rd Cav Co E. CSA. Born “Christian Nicolai Keyser Grogaard” on 17 Oct 1840 in Lillesand, Norway. Civil War: Enlisted for one year on 3 Jun 1861 at Shelbyville, Shelby County, Texas. Private. During May and June of 1863, he was on extra duty to procure horses. Promoted to Sergeant and transferred to Co F after Sep 1863. Wounded in fighting at Lost Mountain, Georgia, on 14 Jun 1864. Sometime in the fall of 1864, he rejoined his regiment at Canton, Mississippi, and was assigned as Commissary Sergeant. Promoted to First Sergeant. He was paroled 13 May 1865 at Jackson, Mississippi. Post war: Died 7 Sep 1919 at Jacksonville, Texas.
