Enlisted for three years on 10 Apr 1861 at Prescott, Wisconsin. Mustered 16 Jul 1861 at Madison, Wisconsin. Private. Sick 8 Nov 1861 at Baltimore, Maryland. Took part in the Battles of Gainesville, Virginia, 28-29 Aug 1862; Second Bull Run, Virginia, 30 Aug 1862; South Mountain, Maryland, 14 Sep 1862; Antietam, Maryland, 17 Sep 1862; Fredericksburg, Virginia, 11-15 Dec 1862; Fitzhugh’s Crossing, Virginia, 29 Apr 1863; Chancellorsville, Virginia, 1-3 May 1863, and Gettysburg, Pennsylvania. Wounded severely at Gettysburg, 1 Jul 1863. On furlough from Jan 1864 to April 1864. Discharged from the service 28 Jun 1864 from Harvey Hospital, Madison, Wisconsin, for disability due to wounds received in battle. Post war: Granted a pension of $6 a month because of a wound to his right leg.
