WI 47th Inf Co A. Residence: Winchester, Winnebago County, Wisconsin. Born “Søren Halvorsen Kjeldalen” on 26 Jan 1836 in Hjartdal, Telemark, Norway, son of Halvor Olsen Kjeldalen and Anne Sørensdatter Hovland. He came to America with his parents and seven siblings on “Lolland”, sailing from Larvik and arriving in New York on 14 Aug 1848. They came to Wisconsin to Walworth County, then in 1851 to Columbia County, and in 1860 to the Winchester settlement in Winnebago County. Civil War: Age. 29. Farmer. Married. Blue eyes, light hair, light complexion, 5’7”. Enlisted for one year at Dale, Wisconsin, on 10 Feb 1865. Enlistment credited to Grant County, Wisconsin. Mustered at Madison, Wisconsin, on 21 Feb 1865. Bounty $100 of which $33.33 paid. Private. Mustered out 6 Sep 1865 at Nashville, Tennessee. Post war: Became a farmer in Crow Lake Township, Stearns County, Minnesota. Married Margith Torkildsdatter Lene (1839-1908). Nine children. He died 8 Jul 1915. Brother of soldiers Halvor, Hans and Kittel.
