Enlisted for three years on 24 Feb 1862 at Decorah, Winneshiek County Iowa, and mustered 26 Feb 1862 at Madison. Private. Sick 15 Aug 1862 and sent to hospital in Albany. Moved to a hospital in Louisville, Kentucky, on 26 Aug 1862. Wounded in Chickamauga, Georgia, 20 Sep 1863 and sent to a hospital in Chattanooga, Tennessee, 28 Nov 1863, where he died 15 Dec 1863.
