WI 15th Inf Co D. Residence: Kilbourn City, Columbia County, Wisconsin. From Laurdals Clerical District, Øvre Telemarken, Norway. Civil War: Age 22. Married. Enlisted for three years on 6 Nov 1861 at Kilbourn City, and mustered at Madison, Wisconsin, 8 Dec 1861. Appointed Corporal on 1 Jan 1862. Left sick at home in Kilbourn City on 2 Mar 1862. On 3 Jun 1862, he was reported to be absent without leave since 2 Mar 1862. Reduced to ranks. Sick in Bowling Green, Kentucky, 17 Sep 1862. One report says he ran away from the Bowling Green hospital on 2 Jul 1864 and was listed as a deserter. However he produced discharge papers showing that he had become unfit for service and was discharged from the service on 4 Mar 1863. He was listed then as a Private. Post war: In 1893, he was a businessman in Stevens Point, Wisconsin. Buried at Iola, Wisconsin; stone reads “4 Aug 1839 – 15 Sep 1919”.
