MN 1st Battalion Infantry Co I. Residence not shown. Born “Hans Hansen Sortebergeie” on 15 Jan 1834 in Tungen, Krodsherad, Sigdal, Buskerud, Norway, to Hans Jacobsen. He came to the US in 1861 to Fillmore County, Minnesota. Came to Silver Lake Township in Worth County, Iowa. Civil War: Age 28. Enlisted with his brother Erick. Enrolled 11 Apr 1865. Mustered the same day. Private. He was taken ill while on his way to the front and brought to Malson Hill Hospital in West Virginia. Discharged from the service per surgeon’s order on 20 Jun 1865. Post war: He married Ragnild Helgeson in 1866 in Worth County. He died 18 Jan 1918 in Northwood, Worth County, Iowa, and was buried at Sunset Rest Cemetery in Northwood.
