IA 12th Inf Co G. Residence: Highland Township, Winneshiek County, Iowa. Born in Slidre, Valders, Norway 19 Dec 1840. Civil War: Age 21. Enlisted for three years on 16 Oct 1861 at Decorah, Winneshiek County Iowa. Mustered 5 Nov 1861. Private. Missing in battle 6 Apr 1862, Shiloh, Tennessee. Was in a rebel prison for two months. Re-enlisted & re-mustered 5 Jan 1864. Promoted Corporal 1 Mar 1865. Mustered out 20 Jan 1866, Memphis, Tennessee. Post war: He went to Bancroft Township, Freeborn County, Minnesota, and began farming. Married in 1868 to Nellie Langen. In 1875 he became a manufacturer of wagons and plows. Also a blacksmith. His wife died in 1878. He married again in 1880 to Olena Rood. Moved to Glasgow, Montana, after 1900. Died there 17 Jun 1918. Buried in Lutheran Cemetery at Albert Lea, Minnesota.
