Baptized on 22 Jan 1815 at Voss, Norway, son of Johannes Ivarsen Helland and Kari Olsdatter Sonve. He was married on 27 Oct 1840 to Gudve Mikkelsdatter Gjerald (1814?-by 1880). Seven children. He came to America with his wife and two children on “Mercurious”, which sailed from Bergen and arrived in New York on 7 Sep 1843. They came to Wiota Township, Lafayette County, Wisconsin.
