IA 46th Inf Co F. Residence: Decorah, Winneshiek County Iowa. Born 29 Jan 1846 at Vik, Sogn og Fjordane, Norway, son of Hermund Ivarsen Teigane and Brita Johannesdatter Orvedal. They came to America in 1853 when John was seven, to Boone County, Illinois. Later moved to Burr Oak Springs, Summer township, Winneshiek County, Iowa; then to Lincoln township, Winneshiek County. Civil War: Age 18. Private. Enlisted for 100 days 19 May 1864. Mustered 10 Jun 1864 at Davenport, Iowa. Private. Mustered out 23 Sep 1864, Davenport, Iowa, expiration of term of service. Post war: He was married on 3 Jul 1871 at Ridgeway, Iowa, to Aase/Ana Knudsdatter Alfson. Eleven children. In 1880 he homesteaded in the Dakota Territory. Lived at DeLamere, North Dakota. Died 8 Jan 1924 at Hamlin, Herman Township, Sargent County, North Dakota. Buried at Immanuel Lutheran churchyard, DeLamere.
