HOVELSEN, Hans

MN 7th Inf Co G. Residence: Red Wing, Goodhue County, Minnesota. Born “Hans Hovelsen Tollevsrud” on 5 Apr 1834 at Land, Oppland, Norway, son of Hovel Christophersen Tollevsrud and Berte Hansdatter. Came to America with his parents and four siblings on “Fremad”, which sailed from Drammen and arrived in New York on 25 Aug 1848. They came to Luther Valley, Rock County, Wisconsin, and later to Wiota Township, Lafayette County, Wisconsin. Hans and his brothers, Christopher and Johannes, moved to Minneola Township, Goodhue County. Civil War: Age 24. Enrolled 15 Aug 1862. Mustered 30 Oct 1862. Private. Discharged from the service with his regiment, 16 Aug 1865. Post war: He married Anne Larsdatter Sundby (1827-1915). Six children.
