HUNDEBY, Theodor K.

WI 15th Inf Co K. Residence: Silver Lake Township, Worth County, Iowa. Born at Hof, Solor, Hedmark, Norway, on 5 Dec 1842. Came to America to Winneshiek County, Iowa, in 1854. Moved to Silver Lake township in 1856. Civil War: Age 19. Unmarried. Enlisted for three years on 11 Dec 1861 and mustered at Madison, Wisconsin, 11 Feb 1862. Named Wagonmaster on 18 Feb 1862. Was on Military Police duty in July 1862. Wounded at Stone’s River, Tennessee, 31 Dec 1862, and sent to hospital in Nashville, Tennessee. Served as an orderly there on 13 Feb 1863. Was on recruiting duty in November 1863. Wounded in his head at Bald Knob (Kennesaw Mountain), Georgia, 20 Jun 1864 and sent to hospital. Promoted to Sergeant on 1 Sep 1864. Mustered out with K Company at Chattanooga, Tennessee, on 10 Feb 1865. Post war: Became Sheriff of Worth County in 1871 and served four years. On 3 Jan 1873, he married Randi Medgarden. Nine children. In 1892, Hundeby was a merchant in Northwood, Iowa, operating a drug store. From 1894 to 1898, he was County Treasurer. He was still in Northwood in 1906. Moved to Los Angeles, California, where he died on 21 Nov 1915.
