Enlisted for three years on 10 May 1861 at Milwaukee. Mustered 16 Jul 1861 at Madison, Wisconsin. Private. Took part in the battles of Gainesville, Bull Run, Fredericksburg, Fitzhugh Crossing, Chancellorsville, Gettysburg and Mine Run. Re-enlisted for three years on 31 Dec 1863 at Culpepper, Virginia; bounty $400. Re-mustered 1 Jan 1864 at Culpepper. Sent sick to a hospital in Washington DC where he died on 23 Jun 1864.
